Me and my travel buddies in Seoul are all Korean drama fans. One of the most popular filming sites in South Korea is Nami Island. This is where “Winter Sonata” starring Choi Ji Woo and Bae Yong Joon was filmed. I did not watch this drama. But it was very popular when I was still living in the Philippines that I had an idea what it was.
It was about two hours east of Seoul and there is no direct train available. There are direct shuttles available from Downtown Seoul. It costs about 20,000 Won or $20. We took the public transportation route. Getting on the ITX line at Cheongnyangni Station to Gapyeong Station. For more information, you can visit our post: How To Get To Nami Island.
We got there pretty early and yet there were already a lot of people. It also happened to be really foggy and it was drizzling a bit. It did not really ruin the day for us though. Nami Island is stunning. The fall colors were amazing. No wonder this is one of the top tourist spots in South Korea.
You can easily spend a whole day there if you choose to. Other activities include a mini-train ride, a sky bicycle, and also a zipline. We did not do anything else aside from admiring the beauty that is Nami Island.
There were also areas were they have photo opportunities where you can re-enact scenes from Winter Sonata.
We only spent about four hours in Nami Island. And soon after, we were hungry for some KBbq. All we had to do was cross the street and we were at a random restaurant that serves pork belly. We were lucky that there was someone there that could speak English as the menu was all in Korean.
We decided to see the Hello Kitty Cafe in Hongdae. When I was doing my research, I found out that the branch in Hongdae looked like a house. There was a Hello Kitty Cafe in Myeongdong, close to where we were staying. But that one is much smaller.
We sat down at the cafe’ and almost ordered. Then, we felt too tired and agreed that we should just head back to the hotel and get some rest. We were so drained of our energy that we even took a cab from Hongdae to Myeongdong.
For dinner, we ate at a Katsu place close to our hotel called Le Piano. We ordered the half/half combo. It was half Pork Katsu and half Pork with cheese Katsu. The Pork Katsu was pretty good. But the one with cheese was just okay.
